A long-running fundraising campaign by Drumheller Fire & Rescue reached a record amount during this year’s Canada Day Parade.

Since 1971, the fire department has collected donations for Muscular Dystrophy Canada through its annual Fill the Boot Campaign.

This year, firefighters raised $5,240 for the organization, marking the highest total collected through the local campaign.

Muscular dystrophy is a group of genetic disorders that cause progressive muscle weakness and degeneration over time.
