Seven people have been charged after drugs and weapons were found during a search of a West Broadway home following complaints about suspected drug trafficking, Winnipeg police say.
On Wednesday, officers searched a home on Young Street just south of Portage Avenue after community members complained about suspected illegal conduct there, police said in a Friday news release.
CBC News saw several police officers and vehicles — including the service’s armoured vehicle — outside the home on Wednesday afternoon, as well as a police dog.
Police say officers seized two sawed-off shotguns, ammunition and several swords/machetes inside the home, as well as approximately one ounce of fentanyl, two grams of crack cocaine and $1,600 in currency.

Two men, ages 53 and 32, and three women, ages 29, 27 and 26, have all been charged with multiple firearms-related offences, along with possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
The 53-year-old man, and the 27- and 39-year-old women, were also each charged with posession of a weapon and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
All five were detained in custody.
Two other women, ages 29 and 40, were charged with similar offences but released on a promise to appear in court, police said.
Winnipeg police spokesperson Claude Chancy told CBC News it’s not uncommon for all people present during a search to be charged individually when officers find any drugs.
A “multitude of charges can be applied” to a single firearms offence, he said.
