1 man dead after running from police traffic stop in Surrey

One man is dead after running from a police traffic stop in Surrey.
Shortly after 11 p.m. Thursday (July 30), Surrey Police Service officers conducted a traffic stop of a westbound car in the 15600-block of 56 Avenue, which is also known as Highway 10.
The driver of the stopped car ran from the traffic stop on foot and was struck by a vehicle travelling eastbound, an SPS release shared.
Despite emergency medical attention from SPS officers, Surrey Fire Service firefighters, and BC Emergency Health Services paramedics, the driver, an adult male, tragically died at the scene of the crash, police said.
SPS has informed the Independent Investigations Office (IIO) — the province’s police watchdog — of the incident and they now have jurisdiction, the release said.
Highway 10 was closed for several hours as investigators examined the scene for evidence, but has since completely re-opened.
IIO investigators would like to speak to anyone who was in the immediate area and witnessed the incident, or anyone who has video footage, an IIO release shared.
