The Angus L. Macdonald Bridge will close several times in August for community events and maintenance work.
The first closure takes place Sunday, Aug. 2, from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for the Harbour Hustle and Bridgewalk. Cyclists can still use the bike lane throughout the day.
The Harbour Hustle begins at 10 a.m., featuring all-ages foot races across the bridge. Registration is sold out, raising more than $2,500 for Dartmouth’s The North Grove family services centre, Halifax Harbour Bridges said in a news release.
The Bridgewalk follows from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., offering a “free family-friendly afternoon on the bridge with live entertainment, interactive displays and activities for all ages,” according to the bridge commission.
Performers include the John Alphonse Band, Euphonic Blend, and Kaizen Pro Wrestling. The event will also feature more than 35 community organization booths, new and antique fire trucks, and heavy bridge equipment. Visitors can meet bridge engineers, create chalk art with Jason Skinner, and enjoy free treats and photo opportunities.
The bridge will also undergo 12 overnight closures from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. to replace lane control signs.
Pedestrians and cyclists will still have access to the bridge during the overnight maintenance.

Halifax Harbour Bridges encourages motorists to use the A. Murray MacKay Bridge or alternative routes during the closures.
