A third of the CFL season is in the books, and Week 8 opens with the two best records in the West colliding at Mosaic Stadium. Four games run from Thursday through Sunday, with playoff positioning and momentum on the line in every one. Here is a full look at the CFL odds, injury notes and best bets for the week, with lines compared across 1xBet, 20Bet, Tonybet and Stake.

Edmonton Elks at Saskatchewan Roughriders

Thursday, July 23 — 9:00 p.m. ET, Mosaic Stadium

The Elks (5-1) and Roughriders (4-1) meet with sole possession of first place in the West up for grabs. Both defences rank No. 1 and No. 2 in net offence allowed, and both are especially stingy against the pass, so this one is expected to be a grind in the trenches.

Edmonton leans on running back Justin Rankin, who leads the CFL with 7.1 yards per carry and is putting up a Most Outstanding Player-caliber season, but the Elks arrive banged up. Linebacker Nick Anderson, defensive tackle Jordan Williams and multiple offensive linemen are on the six-game injured list. Saskatchewan counters with a deep, efficient offence behind quarterback Trevor Harris, a three-receiver rotation and bruising back A.J. Ouellette. The Riders have also taken care of the football all season, a contrast to an Edmonton defence that is forcing turnovers at a league-best clip.

Odds comparison:

The number reflects Saskatchewan’s edge: Edmonton’s injury list up front is significant, and the Riders have been the league’s best team at protecting the football. Take the Roughriders on the moneyline, or lay the shorter -4.5 at 20Bet, Tonybet or Stake if you want the spread value.

Best bet: Roughriders -4.5

Calgary Stampeders at Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Friday, July 24 — 8:30 p.m. ET, Princess Auto Stadium

Winnipeg (4-2) has won three straight and gets a home date with a Calgary team (2-4) that has lost back-to-back games. This is a matchup of strengths and weaknesses running in opposite directions: Winnipeg’s defence has carried the team while the offence found its footing, and Calgary’s offence is one of the CFL’s best while its defence has been its biggest issue.

Quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. and running back Dedrick Mills have Calgary’s offence rolling. The Stampeders lead the league in points scored (37.7 per game) and rushing yards per game, and Adams has thrown 17 touchdowns without an interception to open the season. But Calgary is taking the most penalties in the league and allowing the most points, passing yards and net offence per game.

Winnipeg has turned to Dru Brown at quarterback with Zach Collaros on the injured list, and the Bombers are 2-0 with Brown under center, averaging 10.7 more points per game than they did before the switch. Winnipeg’s run defence, which has been more vulnerable than its pass defence, will be tested by Mills.

Odds comparison:

Calgary’s offence is talented enough to bounce back on the road, but the gap between these two defences and Winnipeg’s momentum at home make the Bombers the safer side. The Stampeders’ scoring rate keeps them live as a value play if you want to bet against the streak.

Best bet: Bombers -1.5

Toronto Argonauts at BC Lions

Saturday, July 25 — 7:00 p.m. ET, BC Place

Both teams are looking to turn a corner. Toronto (2-4) is on a three-game losing streak, most recently falling to Hamilton on a missed field goal at the buzzer. BC (1-4) will be without reigning Most Outstanding Player Nathan Rourke, who suffered a non-throwing shoulder injury last week and is expected to miss multiple games.

Backup Chase Brice will make his first start for BC after going 20-of-34 for 226 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions in relief last week. A full week of practice reps as the starter should help him settle in. BC’s defensive front has been a strength, leading the CFL in tackles for loss and rushing yards allowed, but it faces a Toronto passing attack that leads the league in passing yards per game and big plays behind quarterback Chad Kelly.

Odds comparison:

The market still has Toronto favored on the road despite the losing streak, but the Rourke injury and a raucous BC Place crowd behind Brice’s first start make this a spot to consider the home underdog. This is a game where the moneyline on BC offers real value.

Best bet: Lions +2.46 moneyline at Stake

Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Montreal Alouettes

Sunday, July 26 — 7:00 p.m. ET, Percival Molson Stadium

This is a rematch of last year’s East Final, though both rosters look different. Montreal (5-1) enters as one of the best teams in the league behind quarterback Davis Alexander, who leads the league with 2,181 passing yards and a 71.3 completion percentage, and has yet to throw an interception this season, a league record for consecutive pass attempts without a pick. He is playing through a hamstring injury but has not missed a beat, with receivers Tyson Philpot and Tyler Snead and running back Travis Theis supporting him.

Hamilton (3-3) has cycled through quarterbacks since Bo Levi Mitchell went down, and Canadian Tre Ford appears set to start again after completing 77.8 percent of his passes for 218 yards and a touchdown, plus 109 rushing yards, in a win over Toronto last week. Hamilton’s defence leads the CFL in sacks and has kept the team afloat, but it now faces the league’s most productive offence.

Odds comparison:

Montreal is the clear favourite here, and the odds back that up. With Alexander playing at a record pace and Hamilton still finding stability at quarterback, the spread is the more interesting angle than the moneyline given the short price on the Alouettes.

Best bet: Alouettes -9.5 at 20Bet
