Longtime 49ers exec Paraag Marathe, known for his role as Chief Contract Negotiator, has “decided to leave the organization after 25 years.” Marathe is “expected to focus on his roles” with Premier League club Leeds United and Scottish Premiership club Rangers FC, which are both owned by 49ers Enterprises. Marathe was “reportedly a candidate to be the next commissioner” of MLS but “withdrew his name from consideration shortly after his candidacy was made public this summer” (S.F. CHRONICLE, 8/1).
A source told THE ATHLETIC that 49ers Assistant GM Brian Hampton, who was promoted last year to the position, will “take over Marathe’s role as lead contract negotiator.” Hampton has been “handling the bulk of the team’s contracts for several years, although Marathe has remained a part of the most high-profile negotiations” (THE ATHLETIC, 8/1)
