Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Montreal, warning that storms capable of producing strong wind gusts and torrential rain could develop Sunday afternoon and evening.
The yellow-level alert, issued around 8:30 a.m., covers the Montreal Island area. The agency said confidence in the forecast is high and the potential impact is considered moderate.
Sudden wind gusts could make boating and other activities on the water hazardous, while damage to roofs, fences, tree branches and temporary shelters is possible.
Heavy rainfall could also cause flash flooding and sharply reduce visibility.
Environment Canada urged residents to go indoors when thunder is heard and to continue monitoring weather alerts and forecasts.
On Sunday, Environment Canada expects a high of 27 C and a humidex of 35.
