CF Montréal says it is investigating allegations that fans directed discriminatory comments at a player during Saturday night’s match against the New England Revolution.
In a statement issued Sunday afternoon, the club said it was taking the allegations “very seriously” and was in contact with Major League Soccer and the Revolution.
“We will work to establish all the facts and take the necessary actions,” the statement said.
The club said it does not tolerate discrimination or hateful behaviour of any kind.
CF Montréal did not identify the player, describe the alleged comments or say whether the fans involved had been identified or removed from Saputo Stadium.
Saturday’s game ended in a 2-2 draw after Montreal recovered from a two-goal halftime deficit.
