Police say a man has been charged after a shooting in downtown Calgary.
Officers responded to reports of a shooting at the Victoria Park/Stampede LRT station Saturday at around 8 p.m.
There, they found two men with what appeared to be gunshot wounds. Both were taken to hospital, one in life-threatening condition — now upgraded to stable — and the other in stable condition.
Police say it’s believed three men got into an argument on the CTrain. After getting off, one man shot the other two with a pistol, before fleeing.
Police arrested the man shortly after. He’s been charged with two counts each of aggravated assault and discharging a firearm with intent, and one count each of possession of a firearm for a dangerous purpose, possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order and unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon.
The man will next appear in court on Wednesday.
Calgary police say addressing gun violence is a key priority.
“Brazen acts of violence like this have no place in Calgary and have a lasting impact on the community,” Acting Staff Sgt. Corey Der said in a statement.
“By needlessly putting members of the public at risk, the offender demonstrated a complete disregard for the safety of others. He will be held accountable for his actions.”
