The 8th edition of the ANZA Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Contenders Series lit up Nairobi as a sold-out crowd at The Alchemist cheered on a dramatic night of nonstop cage action.
The fight card delivered high-energy finishes and statement victories for local talent. In the main event, Kenya’s Samuel Laurian put on a ruthless striking display to defeat compatriot Joshua Ojowa via third-round TKO. Following his dominant performance, Laurian sent a strong warning to future challengers.
“Fighters do respect my name. Don’t call me out, don’t call me out,” declared Laurian.
Home fighters continued their success throughout the night.
Norman Mondo preserved his undefeated amateur record with a submission victory over Uganda’s Musa Mugamba, while Hamza Fahim secured a TKO win against South Sudan’s Diing Chol.
Meanwhile, Hassan Jaffar pulled off one of the fastest finishes of the evening, submitting fellow Kenyan Elvis Okello with a first-round triangle choke.

Reflecting on the event’s massive success and packed venue, ANZA MMA founder Peng Chen praised the rising standard of East African combat sports.
“The performances inside the cage reflected the incredible level of talent we have in the region, and we’re grateful to our athletes, coaches, fans, partners and everyone who continues to support the growth of MMA,” said Chen. “The entire fight card delivered an unforgettable night for everyone in attendance, and we can’t wait to do this again.”
Since launching in mid-2025, the ANZA MMA Contenders Series has established itself as East Africa’s premier amateur MMA platform. Operating as Kenya’s first licensed MMA promotion under the Kenya Oriental Combat Sports Federation, it continues to provide crucial exposure for emerging athletes building toward professional careers.
