The 45-minute air show is expected to draw thousands to the Dallas Road waterfront, which will not be accessible by car during the event, which starts at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

The City of Victoria is asking people gathering along the waterfront Tuesday to see the Snowbirds’ 5 p.m. show to plan ahead for their trip, as roads will be closed for traffic management and safety.

The 45-minute air show is expected to draw thousands to Dallas Road, which will not be accessible by car during the event.

Dallas Road from Douglas Street to Memorial Crescent will be closed to vehicle traffic from 3 to 7 p.m., and access to Clover Point will be closed to the public during the air show, the city said.

Arriving early to the 5 p.m. event is recommended, as significant congestion and delays are expected before and after the show with an estimated 30,000 spectators packing the shoreline.

A free bike valet will be available at the intersection of Cook Street and Dallas Road starting at 3:30 p.m.

Some bus stops will temporarily close, and some buses will be re-routed.

Police will be on scene to manage traffic, and they may close Cook Street and other side roads north of Dallas Road at their discretion, said the city.

The Snowbirds are performing over the Dallas Road waterfront as part of the team’s 55th anniversary celebration.

Organizers said Ogden Point will be one of the best viewpoints.

This is the nine-jet aerobatic team’s last season before they go on hiatus until the early 2030s to allow for their aging CT-114 Tutor jets to be replaced by the CT-157 Siskin II.

The Snowbirds have performed about 2,700 times for well over 140 million people ever since their first show in Moose Jaw, Sask. on July 11, 1971.

Pilots will be carving across the sky at speeds sometimes approaching 600 kilometres per hour, performing stunts that will place their aircraft within a metre’s breadth of each other.

The Snowbirds performed a noon flypast over the B.C. Aviation Museum on Monday and will also perform a flypast on Saturday as part of the David Foster Foundation’s 40th anniversary Inner Harbour concert.
