One person is dead following a police-involved shooting in Mississauga.
The shooting occurred in the The Council Ring Road and The Collegeway area, east of Winston Churchill Boulevard, around 12:20 a.m. on Thursday, Peel Regional Police.
Toronto Police were conducting an investigation in the area, and reports indicate shots were fired after a collision.
Peel police said one male was left with life-threatening injuries, and the Special Investigations Unit had invoked its mandate.
In an update, the SIU said the incident was now fatal.
One other male was transported to hospital with minor injuries, police said.
A Toronto Police officer was also transported to hospital with minor injuries as a result of a collision, police said.
Three people were taken into custody, police said.
Residents can expect a heavy police presence in the area, and the scene will remain closed for several hours. Police asked people to avoid the area.
The SIU is expected to provide an update later this morning.
The SIU is a provincial police oversight agency responsible for investigating circumstances involving police that have resulted in a death or serious injury, or if a firearm was discharged at a person.
