Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating a fatal officer-involved collision and shooting that took place in Mississauga early Thursday morning.
Peel police said in a post on social media platform X that they responded to a shooting involving Toronto police officers around 12:22 a.m. Thursday near Council Ring Road and The Collegeway.
Peel police Const. Laurie McCann said in an email that the call came in from a citizen.
Toronto police were conducting an investigation at the time and three people have been arrested following the incident, said Peel police.
Peel paramedics said two people were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and that they performed life-saving measures on another person, but did not transport them from the scene.
The incident was confirmed to be fatal by the Special Investigations Unit, which said it is investigating the case and will provide an update at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
Peel police said one of the injured was a Toronto police officer, who had minor injuries due to a collision.
