A new restaurant has opened in Mississauga, replacing a popular eatery that had been in business for over a decade.

Pal’ Antojo Mexican Restaurant announced it has officially opened at 277 Queen St. S., a space previously occupied by Border MX Mexican Grill.

Border MX Mexican Grill quietly closed its doors late last year. Open since 2014, the restaurant was a popular local spot known for its open-air patio, live music nights and a wide variety of traditional and modern Mexican dishes.

The closure came after a difficult stretch for the business. On Valentine’s Day 2025, a pipe burst overnight inside the restaurant, causing major water damage throughout the kitchen. They reopened in April 2025.

In May this year, Pal’ Antojo Mexican Restaurant said they were getting the location at 277 Queen St. S. ready to open. In the meantime, they had their food truck open behind the business.

Today, Pal’ Antojo announced it was now open.

“The wait is over! @palantojostreetsville has opened their doors at 277 Queen St. S.,” the restaurant said on Instagram. “Enjoy a delicious variety of authentic Mexican foods, traditional desserts, and beverages. Full menu coming soon.”

The front of the building is newly repainted with a colourful mural and the name of the restaurant. The interior also features new signage.

A menu online shows a range of tacos, and specialities such as Quesabirrias, a stewed beef seasoned on a crunchy corn tortilla with cheese, cilantro, onion and beef broth, and Chilaquiles, crispy corn tortilla chips in a green or red sauce, sour cream, onion, cheese and beans.
