A man is dead in a police-invoved shooting in Mississauga. The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has now released more information about the fatal incident that left one person deceased after being shot by a police officer on Thursday.
The incident occurred at around 12:20 a.m. near Council Ring Road and The Collegeway.
SIU spokesperson Monica Hudon told reporters this morning that officers from the Toronto Police Service had been pursuing a Mercedes that had been reported stolen in Toronto the day before.
She said that five unmarked Toronto police vehicles were involved in the pursuit. During the incident, three of these police vehicles were involved in a collision with the Mercedes.
During the interaction, one police officer fired a shot into the Mercedes. Driver of the Mercedes was struck. The male has since died. Police have not released the deceased man’s age or identity, as his family is still being notified.
The three other occupants of the stolen Mercedes were arrested. None of them were injured.
During the pursuit, one Toronto police officer also sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
SIU is investigating the incident.
