Soccer pros help launch Surrey FC’s new Qualico Cup Aug. 28-30

Surrey FC is launching a pre-season soccer tournament where professional players will present trophies to winning teams.
The Newton-based club’s Qualico Cup will be played at South Surrey Athletic Park from Aug. 28-30, with Ralph Priso, Jeevan Badwal, Belal Halbouni and Isaac Boehmer signed on to celebrate and mingle with young players on U10-U18 teams.
The inaugural tournament is organized to provide “a premium tournament experience” that emphasizes player development, meaningful competition, sportsmanship and community, with Surrey Football Club (FC), the Badwal Family, Pooni Group and Qualico backing.
Registration is done on surreyfc.com/qualicocup with an Aug. 9 deadline. Expected are hundreds of youth athletes from across B.C. and thousands of local spectators over the tournament weekend.
“Whether your team is preparing for league play, integrating new players, or looking for quality preseason competition, the Qualico Cup provides the ideal opportunity to build chemistry, evaluate progress, and begin the season with confidence,” the tourney website says.
Surrey FC has partnered with EventConnect to handle tournament registration, payments, team/player info, hotel bookings and overall tournament communications.
Looking ahead, Surrey FC will host the Canada Soccer U-15 National Championships from Oct. 6–12, 2026 at Newton Athletic Park.
On June 10, a field at the park on 128 Street is where Newton-raised Badwal, a midfielder with Vancouver Whitecaps, joined former ‘Caps keeper David Ousted and ex-Canucks forward Chris Higgins in leading a youth soccer camp, held days prior to the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Badwal family presented the two-hour camp in partnership with Qualico and Pooni Group Foundation with a goal to make it an annual event in Newton. All proceeds from registration fees support soccer programs in the community.
