SEATTLE — Back-to-school shopping season is ramping up, and for many families, the price tag is becoming a major budget squeeze as they start checking items off their children’s supply lists.
Costs can add up quickly across various categories, including technology, books, and other classroom supplies, especially when families also face larger purchases, such as laptops and sports gear.
Financial advisor Adam Powell of Private Advisory Group in Redmond recommends families start by making a plan for what they need and what they can afford, then looking for ways to time purchases and spread costs out rather than taking “one big hit to the wallet.”
He also suggests using budgeting tools or apps to track spending as purchases add up over the course of the shopping season.
