Ontario is investing $200,000 to help the Nipissing First Nation move forward with the Beaucage Park (Miskwaabik) Renewable Energy and Lighting Project
The province is investing $200,000 to support the Nipissing First Nation’s Beaucage Park (Miskwaabik) Renewable Energy and Lighting Project.
Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli announced the funding on August 6. The money comes from the province’s 2025 Indigenous Energy Support Program’s Economic Development steam.
“Ontario’s expanded Indigenous Energy Support Program is helping to build our province’s energy infrastructure through Indigenous-led planning and projects,” Fedeli said. “Through Ontario’s Energy for Generations plan, our government is making investments to build the local reliable energy infrastructure needed to meet growing electricity demand while ensuring Nipissing First Nation is a partner in that future.”
Nipissing First Nation (NFN) is in the early stages of a renewable solar project. The funding will cover detailed design work and permitting, the procurement of Photovoltaic (PV) modules, inverters, and other equipment, noted a release from Fedeli’s office.
NFN’s Chief Cathy Stevens, said, “Through the funding we received from the Indigenous Energy Support Program, the Miskwaabik (Beaucage Park) Renewable Energy and Lighting Project will help advance our commitment to clean energy, reduce our environmental footprint, and create a safer, more resilient community space for members and visitors.”
“As stewards of the land,” the chief continued, “we have a responsibility to care for our environment while building a sustainable future for our community.”
