The Breitling Top Time B01 Chronograph 41 Tribute To Aston Martin DB5 is the second limited edition to come out of the partnership between the two companies, both of which can claim a pedigree that involves James Bond. Breitling and Aston Martin co-starred in at least one James Bond movie: a Breitling watch appeared on Sean Connery’s wrist in Thunderball (1965) as the first Q-modified gadget watch in the James Bond franchise. And Aston Martin’s iconic DB5 has appeared in eight Bond films, making its debut in Goldfinger (1964) and returning in Thunderball.

The partnership will produce several limited edition watches, beginning in February of this year with the Navitimer B01 Chronograph Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team. The new Top Time B01 Chronograph 41 Tribute To Aston Martin DB5 is a tribute to the car that became an iconic mode of transportation for Bond. Introduced in 1963, the model has has become synonymous with British culture and design. Likewise, the Breitling Top Time was introduced in the 1960s, and became a favorite of youthful, active, hip watch lovers.
There are three limited editions, one in 18k red gold.

Like the original design, the new Top Time Aston Martin has a cushion-shaped case, grooved corners and mushroom pushers. The “squircle” subdials capture the look of classic car dashboard gauges. DB5 features include a wooden inner ring like the car’s steering wheel and a hand-colored gradient leather strap that represents the depth and tone of fine automotive upholstery.

“Rather than transferring individual elements from the DB5 directly into the watch, we wanted to translate its character,” says Aston Martin chief creative officer Marek Reichman. “Subtle material references, from the leather detailing to the unique interpretation of wood finishes, provide a connection to the car, but the true influence lies in the emotional quality of the design,” he says. “It is less about recreating an icon and more about honoring its enduring design principles through a modern lens.”

Will Breitling and Aston Martin star together again in the next Bond film? “We are always proud of our association with James Bond and of the role Aston Martin has played in shaping one of cinema’s most celebrated stories,” says Reichman. “Whenever an opportunity exists to bring together two such iconic British institutions, it is naturally something we would welcome.” In other words, for now it’s a secret. We’ll have to wait and find out.
