An evacuation alert in place for a single property near a wildfire off Highway 6 has been rescinded.
The Regional District of Central Kootenay pulled back the notice Friday, Aug. 6 for the Inonoaklin Creek blaze.
Meanwhile hot, smoky and dry conditions continue to challenge crews fighting wildfires throughout the province.
The situation is much the same at the 1,223-hectare Inonoaklin Creek blaze near Needles, east of Vernon.
“Local smoke concentrations have increased,” the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) said in a Friday, Aug. 7 update. “Fire activity may increase as smoke clears throughout the day; if smoke is minimal, max temperatures could rise and relative humidity could fall a few percentage points. Sustained winds are forecast to be calmer, but variable over the next couple of days. Conditions will remain hot and dry.”
There are 89 wildfire personnel responding to Inonoaklin, along with two helicopters, heavy equipment and structure protection.
“Firefighters continue to make progress establishing and reinforcing control lines around the fire’s permitter,” BCWS said. “Direct attack is underway in areas where it is safe to do so, most notably on the eastern and northern flanks.”
Planned ignitions are also being conducted to support objectives by reinforcing control features in areas of inoperable terrain.
