Coquitlam kicker Dawson Hodge is back in the Canadian Football League.
The 24-year-old Terry Fox Secondary School grad has signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
It’s Hodge’s second go-round with the Prairie team. He played one pre-season game with the Roughriders in 2025, averaging 64 yards on three kickoffs, punting once for 48 yards and scoring a 31-yard field goal.
Hodge landed his try-out with Saskatchewan after he had been cut from the Toronto Argonauts’ training camp earlier that spring.
Following his release by the Roughriders, Hodge returned to Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ont., for his fifth season with the Golden Hawks.
There, Hodge connected for 51 of 76 career field goal attempts, scored 419 points and helped lead the team to the Yates Cup and Uteck Bowl in 2024. He was also a first team Ontario University Athletics all-star and second-team U-Sports All-Canadian in 2022.
In January, Hodge signed with the Calgary Stampeders, where he was reunited with his college long snapper, Jason MacGougan.
But the reunion didn’t last, as Hodge was released after appearing in one pre-season game — ironically against the Roughriders — where he kicked a 43-yard field goal.
In Saskatchewan, Hodge will be a back-up to incumbent kicker Alex Hale, an Australian who’s struggling in his rookie season. He’s only been successful on 12 of his 17 field goal attempts through seven games.
On Tuesday, Roughriders’ coach Corey Mace — who’s from Port Moody — told Sportscage.com he’s open to pushing Hale.
“Yeah, you always look at all those different options,” he said. “If we bring somebody in for competition, we’ll always do what’s best for the team.”
Hodge didn’t start playing football until his senior year at Terry Fox. when his twin brother, Brandon, talked him into bringing his soccer skills to the the school’s football team. He subsequently helped the Ravens reach the semifinals of the 2018 Subway Bowl provincial championship.
