The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has made three arrests and recovered three stolen vehicles following the theft of a vehicle in Milton.

Back on July 21, officers with the Halton Regional Police Service received a report about a stolen Toyota Sequoia from a dealership on Steeles Avenue East in Milton, investigators say.

Officers tracked the stolen ride to a location in North York where the vehicle was recovered in a shipping container.

A Toyota Tundra and a Honda CR-V were also found, and police say both were also reported stolen from the Greater Toronto Area.

Photos shared by investigators show the vehicles jammed into the container along with mattresses.

Police say three people were arrested and charged with multiple offenses.

Joel Hinson, 66, of Brampton, and Isaac Boamah, 34, of North York, have been charged with three counts each of possession of property obtained by crime – over $5,000.

Bright Mensah, 37, of Brampton, has been charged with three counts of possession of property obtained by crime – over $5,000, and fail to comply with a probation order.

Police say stolen vehicles can be used as a revenue tool for crime groups, either being traded as currency or used in crimes before being ditched or destroyed. Some end up shipped overseas, with police aware of used car lots in countries like Ghana which appear to be selling stolen vehicles from Ontario.

In 2023, INsauga.com reported on a lot in Ghana selling vehicles with plates from Ontario and Quebec, as well as U.S. states like Texas and California. Peel Regional Police said at the time that officers were investigating similar lots in Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
