The Washington Commanders have infused three veterans into their offensive line in the latest roster shake-up. Combined, they add 223 NFL games’ worth of experience to protect Jayden Daniels.
The Commanders signed center Daniel Brunskill, offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere and guard Max Scharping to the active roster on Saturday. They released wide receiver Chris Hilton Jr. and guard Timoth McKay. The team also placed defensive tackle D.J. Davidson on the Reserve/Retired List.

The move comes with a clear message on how the Commanders are trying to address offensive line problems heading into the 2026 season.
Brunskill has appeared in 108 games and started 71, while Petit-Frere has played 34 games with 28 starts. Scharping has 81 games, including 33 starts, under his belt. The total is 223 regular-season games with 132 starts included.
The goal is not necessarily to find three new starters but to give Washington enough options in case their offensive line struggles to keep Daniels upright.

Commanders C position just got much more interesting
Daniel Brunskill’s arrival in the Commanders’ training camp adds interesting competition at the offensive line position. The former undrafted player out of San Diego State has played center, guard and tackle during his career.
With Nick Allegretti an experienced option in the middle, along with sixth-round rookie Matt Gulbin adding depth, the Commanders have added another veteran capable of playing center.
Though Brunskill may not immediately challenge for the position, it does give head coach Dan Quinn an option to mull over, especially when the offensive line has not been able to sustain against Washington’s defensive line both in pass protection and the running game in padded practice.
The biggest stars on the Commanders OL are arguably left tackle Laremy Tunsil and guard Sam Cosmi (ranked 10th among NFL guards by PFF entering the 2026 season). Cosmi posted a 76.3 grade despite appearing in only nine games last year. He allowed 11 pressures and two sacks.
