Art tour opens studios to visitors

The South Rock Art Tour will be returning for another year this Sept. 19 and 20 – opening artists’ studios and gallery exhibition spaces across the Semiahmoo Peninsula to art-conscious residents, visitors and potential buyers.

The free event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m each day, is an opportunity to meet artists and artisans creating in South Surrey and White Rock and discover, first-hand, their creative processes.

This year the event features a pre-opening reception on Sept 17 (7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Nomad Gallery (1377 Johnston Rd.).

Some 35 artists will open their studios or join others to show their work, including Audrey Bakewell, Bruce Kleeberger, Caroline Baasch, Cheryl Bodnar, Chuck Boesen, Constance Glover, Eileen Fong, Elayne Preston, Jacquie Alexander, Jeanette Jarville, Joanne Carter, Jon Lavoie, Julie McDowell, Karin Olsson, Kathy Forbes, Laurie Thomasson, Leah Albrecht, Leah Murray, Li Boesen, Lisa Samphire, Lorraine Scott, Lucia Steeg, Lynda Batista, Marlene Fuhrmann, Melissa Hendricks, Mindy Hardiman, Monica Burrow, Nicci Battilana, Patricia Sandberg, Phil Winch, Sanjoy Das, Sherry Johansson, Tammy Bailey, Terri Casella and Tiffany Scott.

The work ranges from original two dimensional pieces in watercolour, acrylic, oils, pastels, charcoal and mixed media to exceptional blown glass, torched glass, ceramics, jewellery, stoneware, mosaics, turned wood, paper art, stained glass and wooden and stone sculptures.

Participating artists also contribute wearable art, totes, home decor and cards to the mix.
