Local utility outages are possible, Environment Canada added.
An outage in Brampton, Ont., had impacted nearly 10,000 homes and businesses, electricity utility and distributor Alectra said in a social media post Saturday afternoon.
Crews were dispatched and were aiming to restore power by 5 p.m., Alectra said, noting that 973 homes and businesses were still affected as of 2 p.m.
Residents are urged to remain indoors, secure loose objects and take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
