A 50-year-old man is facing charges related to the sexual assault of a child.

Simon Nicholas, who Edmonton police said is also known as Ambrose Nicholas, was charged on July 29 with sexual assault, sexual interference and two counts of breaching a court order.

Court records show Nicholas is also facing several charges involving a minor in Athabasca, Alta., including sexual assault and sexual exploitation.

A news release from Edmonton police on Thursday said Nicholas was subject to court-ordered conditions at the time of the reported incidents which prohibited from contacting children under 16 and restricted him from accessing locations frequented by children.

The news release said in both investigations, investigators believe Nicholas presented himself to a parent as someone who could be trusted to care for young children.

Police said investigators believe there may be additional victims or witnesses who have not yet come forward. They are asking for anyone with information to contact them.
