A 38-year-old man has been arrested after an attack that left a 70-year-old man in critical condition and injured another man in east-end Montreal.
The suspect was arrested Friday and taken to an investigation centre for questioning, Jeanne Drouin, a Montreal police spokesperson, said.
He was expected to appear in the Court of Quebec later Saturday to face a charge of aggravated assault.
The 70-year-old was found with severe upper-body injuries on Notre-Dame St. in Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve at about 5 a.m. Thursday. He was taken to hospital, where he remained in critical condition Saturday.
About 20 minutes later, officers then found a 45-year-old man with upper-body injuries inside a nearby residence. His life was not in danger.
Police established two security perimeters to preserve potential evidence.
They have not disclosed what led to the attack.
