The unemployment rate went down almost everywhere in the country last month except Newfoundland and Labrador.
The rate in Canada is at its lowest in two years – 6.4 per cent. In this province, unemployment shot up to 9.3 per cent in July from 8.2 in June. The only other province which saw an increase was Quebec, but only a slight one. All other sub-federal jurisdictions experienced a reduction.
As for the cities surveyed, unemployment in St. John’s remains at 7.0, lower than Moncton but higher than Halifax, Saint John and Fredericton.
