Two people are wanted by police after at least eight people were scammed in an apartment rental scheme in Mississauga.

Investigators with the Fraud Bureau seek two suspects in connection with an apartment rental fraud scheme that allegedly victimized multiple individuals in Mississauga, Peel Regional Police said on Thursday.

Apartment rental opportunities were advertised on social media between January and February 2025, police said.

Victims said they went to an apartment and met people who claimed to be the current tenants. The victims then signed rental agreements online and sent money by e-transfer to secure the rental unit, police said.

But when they arrived to move in, they discovered the unit was unavailable, and the individual posing as the landlord could no longer be contacted, police said.

Investigators have identified at least eight victims with combined financial losses exceeding $30,000, police said.

Police said none of the victims received the promised accommodations or had their money returned.

Warrants have been issued for the arrest of two people.

Jashanpreet Sidhu, 23, of Saskatoon is wanted on charges of fraud over $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime.

Priyanshu Goel, 24, of Surrey is wanted on charges of fraud over $5,000.

Police advise people to exercise caution when searching for rental accommodations online. Always verify the identity of prospective property owners, police said.

“Do not be pressured into signing rental agreements online or forwarding cash deposits without first conducting sufficient due diligence,” police added.
