Vancouver FC handed Forge their first home loss in more than a year, a 1-0 shutout to extend the Eagles undefeated run to five games on Friday night in Hamilton.
Vancouver scored shortly before halftime, when Thierno Bah fed Damiano Pecile.
Forge complained Pecile was offside, but the Football Video Support system upheld the goal, and Vancouver took a 1-0 lead into the break.
Forge poured it on in the second half, but couldn’t get past VFC goalkeeper Callum Irving.
It ended with Forge’s regular season loss at home since Oct. 12, 2024.
Vancouver are the only visiting CPL side to score at Hamilton Stadium in 2026, and they have now done so in both of their away matches against Forge.
It’s a bg turnaround for VFC after a slow start this season.
“We’re getting rewarded a little bit for the effort and staying the course,” VFC captain Irving said postmatch.
“It’s tough to stay the course when it’s not working, and I think we were getting to that point where if a few more games went by and it wasn’t happening for us, something was going to have to happen in terms of changing our style of play, rotating the lineup massively, just trying to find something to change it. … I’m glad we stuck with it because I think everybody can see watching us in the league that we’re a team that has quality, and can be enjoyable to watch as well.”
Irving was named CPLSoccer.com Player of the Match for withstanding Forge’s waves of attack.
Vancouver’s next action will be on Friday, Aug. 14 at home at the stadium at Langley Events Centre in a B.C. derby against Pacific FC at 6 p.m.
