Westbrook might not be able to single-handedly carry a team by averaging a triple-double anymore, but he’s a valued veteran in the NBA who’s proven he can still produce on the court.
Despite that, the guard remains unsigned and waiting for a call to finalise his destination for next season.

Westbrook gave an interview on CNN for his philanthropic works, but was asked about his status for the next NBA season as an unsigned free agent.
“I don’t think about it, honestly. I love playing basketball, and if it happens, it works, and that’s my plan.”

Westbrook saying ‘if’ it happens opens up a worrying possibility, one where he may be stepping away from the sport. Whether that’s by personal choice or because he doesn’t have any NBA offers is unclear.
The Kings, with whom Westbrook averaged 15.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 6.7 assists last season, are reportedly interested in having him return as a mentor for No. 7 pick Darius Acuff Jr.

However, that also means Westbrook agreeing to another losing season instead of being a competitor on a team with title chances.

Westbrook is hard to fit into most conventional offenses as a role-player, as his game’s strengths come from him controlling the ball as a point guard. However, his lowered efficiency and poor outside shooting make him a risky bench option for most contending teams.
The only real destination for him might be the Miami Heat, but even that remains unclear right now, as the Heat need strong shooters to round out their lineup.
It’d be a shame if Westbrook’s NBA career ends without a potential farewell tour, but that’s the nature of the modern NBA.
