Vehicle destroyed in suspected arson attack outside Hampstead home

A vehicle was declared a total loss in a suspected arson attack outside a home in Hampstead early Saturday.

The fire broke out shortly after 2:15 a.m. on Belsize Road, near Applewood Cres., according to Jeanne Drouin, a Montreal police spokesperson.

Firefighters called police to the scene after extinguishing the blaze.

At least one person was seen leaving shortly after the fire began, Drouin said.

Traces of an accelerant were discovered nearby, she added.

The vehicle sustained extensive damage and was towed for further examination.

No arrests have been made, Drouin said.
