Two people have been arrested after an alleged armed robbery that led to a police chase and attempted carjacking in downtown Toronto.
Toronto police say the incident happened at approximately 3 a.m. Saturday in the area of Bathurst and Richmond Street following reports of a person with a gun.
Police allege two suspects approached two victims and “robbed them at gunpoint” before fleeing in a stolen vehicle.
Officers then located the vehicle and attempted to stop it, but police say the driver fled, resulting in a collision.
The two suspects then allegedly fled the vehicle on foot while being pursued by officers.
“One of the accused attempted to carjack another vehicle, but was unsuccessful,” police said in a news release, adding that the accused also pointed a loaded firearm at one of the officers.
Both suspects were arrested as police seized two loaded firearms.
Tajae-J’nye Samuel-Maragh, 23, of Toronto, faces numerous charges, including robbery with a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a loaded firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of property obtained by crime.
Also, 29-year-old Kingslee Ivan Christie, of Whitby, is facing numerous charges, including two counts of robbery with a firearm, dangerous operation of a conveyance, flight while being pursued by police, pointing a firearm and possession of a loaded firearm.
Police are asking anyone who witnessed or interacted with the accused, or who may have recorded the incident on their phone, to contact investigators.
