Ready, set, go: How this Surrey race is helping bring the community together
Published 5:53 pm Sunday, August 9, 2026
RunSurreyRun welcomes everyone regardless of age, fitness level or experience!
Now in its sixth year, RunSurreyRun race director and founder Gurjinder Bhurji reminds Surrey residents that the nature of the event is community first and winning second.
“RunSurreyRun is not just about crossing the finish line. It’s rooted in celebrating our community and the people who call it home,” Bhurji says.
As a runner herself, Bhurji founded RunSurreyRun in 2019 after participating in similar events in other communities and wishing she could bring that experience home to Surrey.
“We’re one of Canada’s largest and fastest-growing cities but we didn’t have a signature race that residents could proudly call our own,” she shares.
What to expect at RunSurreyRun 2026
Whether someone wants to join the 1K kid’s race, participate in the 5K or 10K races, join as a team or skip the running all together and volunteer instead, there’s something for everyone at the 2026 race on Saturday, Sept. 12.
RunSurreyRun’s certified 5K race starts at 9 a.m. at 134 Street and 98B Avenue, travelling south to 97 Avenue, west to 132 Street, north to 108 Avenue and east to University Drive with the finish line just a few blocks south in Holland Park.

This year’s certified 10K race starts at 9:30 a.m. and follows the same route until University Drive where racers run an additional 11 blocks south for a second loop before also finishing in Holland Park.
The kids’ race is a 1k loop around Holland Park that starts at 11 a.m. Guardians are welcome to run alongside their children, push a stroller or cheer from the sidelines.
After crossing the finish line, participants will receive their RunSurreyRun finisher medal, snacks and refreshments.
Then celebrate in the festival-style Finish Line Zone featuring fun photo opportunities, a Health & Recovery Zone, sponsor and community activations, and a Family Fun Zone for little ones.
“You’ll see grandparents walking with grandchildren, first-time runners crossing the finish line, elite athletes chasing personal bests, families pushing strollers and children proudly earning their first medal. Everyone shares the same finish line,” Bhurji says.
