Man injured in grizzly bear attack near Pemberton

B.C. Conservation Officer Service says there is no ongoing threat to other backcountry users after a grizzly bear attack near Pemberton.
Conservation officers responded to a report of a grizzly bear attack Sunday evening in the backcountry area of the Rutherford Creek drainage, a Facebook post from the service says.
B.C. Conservation Officer Service said the investigation determined the attack was “defensive in nature” and was the result of a “close-range surprise encounter.”
The man has non-life-threatening injuries and was able to get himself to safety and seek medical attention.
While the service says there is no ongoing threat to backcountry users, warning signage is being installed in the area.
Elsewhere, an investigation is ongoing in Maple Ridge after a three-year-old was attacked by a bear. A bear was killed by RCMP, but it has since been confirmed it was not the suspect bear.
