The Honey Badgers are headed to the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) championship for the first time since the team moved to Brampton from Hamilton.

It’s been a landmark season for Brampton’s CEBL team, from billionaire entrepreneur and television personality Mark Cuban joining the team’s ownership group to a recent on-court brawl leading to suspensions and fines.

The Honey Badgers have been in comeback mode this year after finishing at the bottom of the CEBL standings over the past two seasons. They finished second in the league’s Eastern Conference and won a first-round matchup against the Ottawa BlackJacks before taking on the Niagara River Lions.

Securing a 91-81 win over Niagara on Saturday sends the Honey Badgers to the finals against the Winnipeg Sea Bears.

The CEBL Finals kick off with Game 1 on Wednesday night in Brampton at the CAA Centre, with Games 2 and 3 at the Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg.

Brampton had a 11-11 record in the 2025-2026 season, and making it to the finals ends a three-year postseason drought. The Honey Badgers’ last playoff berth was in the 2021-2022 season where they won the CEBL championship, before the team moved from Hamilton.

Two of the Brampton Honey Badgers were suspended and fined ahead of the Canadian Elite Basketball League playoffs following an on-court brawl.

Scarborough was leading Brampton 48-44 when the fight started, and appeared to begin between the Honey Badgers’ Tegra Izay and the Shooting Stars’ Charles Bediako before quickly escalating as players from both benches became involved.

Video from the game which has since been removed online shows punches being thrown as teammates and coaching staff rushed onto the court in an attempt to separate those involved.
