12 of 20 commercial vehicles fail recent B.C. inter-agency inspection

More than half of the vehicles in a recent inspection blitz were pulled off the road for serious safety issues.
On July 29, Coquitlam RCMP conducted a Commercial Vehicle Safety check in collaboration with officers from Integrated Road Safety Unit, Langley Township bylaws, Vancouver Police Department, Port Moody Police, New Westminster Police, Coquitlam Bylaws, and WorkSafeBC.
A total of 20 commercial vehicles were inspected with 12 of them being put out of service due to serious safety issues. In total 47 vehicle defects were noted, and 17 tickets were issued.
“We would like to thank those drivers that had safe vehicles on the roadway today. Coquitlam RCMP strives to educate all drivers on how to keep our roadways safe and by doing this with our partner agencies we are able to promote safe driving practices, increase awareness of vehicle safety requirements, and improve compliance throughout the Lower Mainland,” said Const. Jennifer Barker, Coquitlam RCMP Traffic Services.
Enforcement collaboration between police and bylaw are valuable in commercial vehicle enforcement, given that transport operators routinely travel between municipalities across the Lower Mainland.
