Edmonton Police Service (EPS) issued a warning on Tuesday about the release of a violent sexual offender.

Jamie Edward Meads, 38, who will reside in the Edmonton area, presents “a significant risk of harm to members of the community, particularly individuals who may be vulnerable to intimate partner violence and organizations that provide support to such persons,” police said in a news release.

Meads was convicted in June 2025 of various offences such as assault causing bodily harm, assault by choking, suffocating or strangling, as well as forcible confinement, intimidation and uttering threats. He is known for violence against intimate partners, with eight known victims over a period of approximately 20 years.

EPS said information surrounding Meads’ release is vital to public interest, in particular to “organizations serving vulnerable individuals, and those involved in supporting victims of intimate partner violence.”

Meads’ court-ordered conditions mean he must:

Be supervised by a member of the EPS behavioural assessment unit;

Not start any “sexual or intimate relationship, cohabitation, marriage or common-law relationship” without approval;

Not have any contact with his victims;

Live in an approved residence and not change that address without approval.

Jamie Edward Meads is described as being 38 years old, five-foot-10, weighing 180 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair.

EPS also reminded residents not to “engage in any form of vigilante action” regarding Meads’ release. The public can contact EPS with any information about Meads’ conduct while in the community at 780-423-4567.
