Feds invest $6.4 million in Campbell Heights businesses

The Government of Canada recently announced it’s giving Surrey more than $8 million as part of “regional tariff response initiative.” The money is earmarked for Surrey businesses with $6.4 million of that going to two companies located in Campbell Heights.
Scott Wheatley, executive director of the Cloverdale District Chamber of Commerce, said he’s excited to see more money being spent in an area that needs a lot of infrastructure upgrades.
The Cloverdale Chamber’s district covers Campbell Heights, a region Wheatley says will soon be the economic engine driving Surrey and the Fraser Valley.
“Campbell Heights still has issues with power—there isn’t enough—and lots of other infrastructure issues that need to be addressed,” Wheatley told the Cloverdale Reporter. “We need the investment. So this money, for those businesses, is filling part of the overall need.”
He added the influx of cash is welcomed at a time of great uncertainty brought on by U.S. tariffs.
Wheatley noted, over the past five years, some of the bigger problems facing Campbell Heights have been getting addressed “little by little” in various ways.
“It’s getting better and better,” he said. “Hydro is starting to catch up—that’s the biggest part of it—and new developments bring improved roads and therefore access.”
He said Nanak Foods has been desperate for infrastructure upgrades.
As part of the funding influx, Nanak Foods will get $5.5 million to automate its production lines and warehouse operations, increase capacity, strengthen domestic food production, and support expansion into new international markets.”
PowerHouse Building Solutions is also getting some cash. They will receive $925,000 to automate their warehouse operations, diversify their supply chain, improve productivity, and prepare for expansion into the United Kingdom.
Randeep Sarai, Member of Parliament for Surrey Centre, made the funding announcement last month. The funds were to help “tariff-impacted businesses” increase productivity, cut costs, build more resilient supply chains, and reach new markets.
The other two businesses receiving funds are: AI Industries ($1,000,000), and MTC Solutions ($630,250).
Wheatley noted another “huge” development that will help transform Campbell Heights into that economic engine is the South Campbell Heights Business Park.
Beedie began construction on the one-million-plus square feet project last month. Located on 20th Avenue, the industrial development will eventually grow to 60-acres.
“This is just another building block turning Campbell Heights into an economic engine for the region,” Wheatley added.
He said it’s going to take time—because of all the economic uncertainty, including tariffs, threats of tariffs, current problems with global markets, and supply chain issues—but he sees the area continue to move forward with small infrastructure upgrades.
“Campbell Heights is still not fully developed. And it won’t be right away. The economy has to get better first.”
