While syndication is no longer synonymous with wrestling like it used to be, the Women of Wrestling promotion (WOW) is entering its fifth season under such a format and with big changes for the year ahead.

Revealed in Variety Thursday, WOW will move to live weekly TV episodes, emanating from L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles “as part of a broader live strategy.”

Season four just aired its 35th episode. It’s unclear if season five will also be the same length and, given the syndication element, when the show will initially air. The promotion also airs on YouTube, Pluto TV and Facebook which could be the answer to that question. Interestingly, Paramount handles their syndication element, but the episodes don’t appear on Paramount+.

The season will also feature former L.A. Lakers owner Jeanie Buss with “an increased role on-camera.” She is a co-owner in WOW along with GLOW founder David McLane, and also a promoter.

While ratings for WOW don’t hit the headlines like WWE or AEW does, the Variety piece stated that WOW “has a 93% audience return season over season, and its social following has grown 96% since Season 1.” It’s unclear where the “audience return” is coming from in that regard.
