A truck carrying an excavator became stuck under a railway bridge in downtown Brampton Friday (Aug. 14), forcing the closure of a section of Queen Street and causing traffic delays in the area.
Peel Regional Police said the flatbed truck struck the rail bridge near Queen Street and Theatre Lane.
No injuries have been reported.
Police said crews are assessing the bridge for possible damage following the collision.
The incident has closed Queen Street between Chapel Street and James Street, with motorists warned to expect delays and find alternative routes.
The closure affects a busy stretch through downtown Brampton, near Main Street and The Rose Theatre.
Police did not immediately provide details about the extent of the damage to the bridge or how long the road is expected to remain closed.
The collision comes as downtown Brampton is already experiencing ongoing road construction and traffic restrictions. The city has previously warned motorists of construction impacts along Queen Street between Main Street and Theatre Lane/Chapel Street as part of ongoing downtown improvements.
Drivers travelling through downtown Brampton should avoid the area until the closure is lifted and allow extra time for their trips.
