After 17 years of racing World Cup cross country, Rebecca Henderson is going to try something new. The veteran Australian announced on Friday that the end of the 2026 season would be her last on the mountain bike.
“It’s time to say goodbye to the MTB World Cup,” the reigning Australian national champion posted. “At the end of this season I’ll be stepping away from this beautiful sport. It’s impossible to put 17 years of World Cup racing into words.”
Henderson has remained a staple of the international cross country scene for well over a decade. In that time, she’s represented Australia at four Olympics, won three World Cups and numerous national championship titles.
This may be the end of Henderson’s time on a cross country bike, but it doesn’t sound like it’s the end of Henderson’s career. The Australian hinted that she might be chasing new goals on the road in the future.
First, the Orbea Factory Team rider has to finish off the 2026 season.
“For now I just look forward to giving my best at these last races and enjoying every moment surrounded by the incredible MTB community,” Henderson said. “Shooting for some new goals and opportunities around the corner but 100% here and present in this moment.”
