Montreal will honour the late jazz icon Oliver Jones next Wednesday in a public viewing at City Hall.
Those wishing to pay their respects and offer condolences to Jones’s family may do so from 1:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Hall of Honour, the City said in a statement. The first half-hour of the viewing will be reserved for family, close friends and dignitaries. A book of condolences will also be available in the main hall, the City added.
A celebrated pianist and music teacher, Jones died in July. He was 91.
Over his career, the Little Burgundy legend received numerous honours, including Juno and Félix awards. He was also appointed an officer of the Order of Canada in 1993 and awarded the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award in 2005.

Quebec Premier Christine Fréchette said the province “has lost an exceptional ambassador of its culture,” and offered her condolences to Jones’ loved ones.
The Montreal International Jazz Festival called him “a true pillar of the Festival” in a statement: “He was part of our story for more than 30 years and remains one of its most iconic artists.”
