Five people are in the hospital, including one in critical condition, following a two-vehicle collision in Scarborough on Saturday afternoon.

Toronto police said they got a call for the collision in the area of Kennedy Road and Sheppard Avenue East at 1:14 p.m.

A 36-year-old man was driving a grey Toyota BZ4X eastbound on Sheppard Avenue East when he collided with a grey Dodge Caravan driven by a 56-year-old man, police said.

The Dodge was making a left turn out of a parking lot to proceed westbound.

Police said the driver of the Dodge Caravan was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Toyota and two children who were passengers were also transported to the hospital with minor, non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.
