For the first time in the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season, the series is in action on a Saturday night under the lights with the Cook Out 400 at Richmond Raceway. It marks the first of three Saturday night races on the schedule over the next six weekends.

The four-turn, 0.75-mile (1.207-kilometer) Richmond, Virginia oval used to appear twice on the Cup Series calendar each year, but like it was a year ago, the August race weekend is the only race weekend at the short track in 2026.

Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney took the pole position in Friday afternoon’s qualifying session, and Joe Gibbs Racing’s Chase Briscoe joined him on the front row.

No driver has won at Richmond after starting on the front row in any of the 16 races that have been contested at the track since the start of the 2017 season. Richard Childress Racing’s Austin Dillon enters as the two-time reigning race winner.
