Google has officially entered the item tracker market with the launch of its new Pixel Tag, expanding its hardware ecosystem.

Google is quite late to the Bluetooth tracker market. Samsung introduced its first Galaxy SmartTag in January 2021, followed by Apple’s AirTag just three months later. More than five years later, Google is finally joining them with the Pixel Tag.
Along with the new Pixel 11 series and Pixel Watch 5, Google today announced the Pixel Tag, its first Bluetooth tracker designed to help Android users locate everyday items such as keys, wallets, backpacks, and luggage. As expected, the new accessory works with Google’s Find Hub network, which includes more than one billion Android devices.
Unlike some cheap Bluetooth trackers on the market, the new Pixel Tag is made from stainless steel and comes with an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance. It includes a built-in speaker, allowing users to play a sound when it is nearby. Interestingly, the reverse is also possible: there is a button on the Pixel Tag allowing users to ring their phone when they cannot find it. Google mentioned that the Pixel Tag features a replaceable battery that can last for up to one year.
To set up the Pixel Tag, users can just pull the battery tab, bring the tag close to their smartphone running Android 9 or above, and complete setup through Fast Pair. Tags can be named inside the Find Hub app and shared with up to 10 people, which could be useful for tracking shared items.
The Pixel Tag supports Ultra-Wideband (UWB) and Bluetooth Channel Sounding, offering distance and directional guidance. Users can also make use of the “Left Behind” alerts feature to receive a notification when they accidentally leave an item behind.
When the tag moves outside Bluetooth range, Google’s Find Hub network can anonymously use nearby Android devices to report the tag’s location. Android’s existing unknown tracker alerts will warn users if an unfamiliar tracker appears to be moving with them. In addition to Pixel smartphones, the Pixel Tag also works from a Pixel Watch.
While all of this sounds good, the Google Pixel Tag will go on sale only on November 11. That’s a long time to wait. The Google Pixel Tag will cost $29, pricing it similarly to Apple’s AirTag. Google will also sell a four-pack for $99.
