$20 tree sale for Surrey residents only this week

Fruit and ornamental trees are sold for $20 during another round of Surrey’s popular online program starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18.
Surrey residents can buy a maximum of two trees, then pick them up later at Surrey Operations Centre, on Sept. 18.
The city’s program is “an affordable way to add trees to their properties while helping grow Surrey’s urban forest.”
Available are apple, cherry, plum, dogwood, maple and magnolia trees, listed on surrey.ca/treesale. Most are in three- or five-gallon pots and vary between five to 12 feet tall.
Close to 1,000 trees are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and they often sell out quickly. The purchase limit is two trees per sale with a credit card that has a Surrey billing name and address (or orders will be cancelled).
Fall is one of the best times to plant trees, says Rob Landucci, urban forestry manager. “More than half of Surrey’s tree canopy is located on private property, so homeowner participation plays an important role in growing and protecting our urban forest.”
Next month, another tree sale will open Sept. 29 with a pickup date of Oct. 25.
More than 25,000 trees have been purchased since the Surrey program launched.
