Montreal police have confirmed the city’s 15th homicide of 2026: a 44-year-old woman who was found dead Saturday afternoon in an apartment in the borough of Villeray—St-Michel—Parc-Extension.
A 51-year-old man found seriously injured at the scene is considered a suspect, said Montreal police spokesperson Jeanne Drouin. Police also confirmed that the two were in a relationship, she said. The man remained in life-threatening condition on Sunday afternoon.
Police were called to an apartment on 9th Ave. near Crémazie Blvd. E. on Saturday at 1:45 p.m. for a wellness check. They found the man with serious injuries to the upper body and he was taken to a hospital by Urgences-santé paramedics. They found the woman unresponsive and her death was declared at the scene, Drouin said.
A security perimeter was set up to protect the scene and allow a thorough police investigation. It remained in place until shortly before noon on Sunday.

The investigation confirmed that the woman’s death was a homicide, Drouin said, bringing the number of homicides this year in Montreal to 15.
Police also confirmed that the injuries of both the victim and suspect were caused by a sharp object, Drouin said. The victim’s body “bore signs of violence,” she added.
