A Somali man is in custody after a support staff worker was stabbed at a Surrey hotel used to house asylum seekers, officials say.
Armed officers from Surrey Police responded to the Stanwell hotel in Staines at 6.30pm on Saturday for a report of a stabbing, the force said.
A man in his 30s was taken to hospital with “life-threatening injuries” and a Somali man, in his 20s, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody, according to police.
Conservative MP Lincoln Jopp said Sunday that the victim of the stabbing was a support staff worker.

In a video posted to Facebook, Mr Jopp said he received a phone call on Saturday from the chief constable of Surrey Police informing him of the stabbing.
Mr Jopp, MP for Spelthorne, said “one of the support staff who work here was stabbed”, and that “one of the people who live here was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder”.
Police previously said they were not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident, and asked anyone with information to get in touch.
Detective Superintendent Kate Hyder said on Saturday: “We understand this incident has caused concern within the local community, and I encourage you to speak to local officers.”
