Various service changes affecting numerous bus routes will soon take effect in Mississauga, municipal transit officials say.

A new bus route that will serve a high school in the city’s north end is also among the many changes that will be unveiled by MiWay, Mississauga’s public transit provider, the week of Sept. 7.

The local transit agency says the enhancements are being introduced to make riding the buses faster and more convenient for people in Canada’s seventh-largest city.

“MiWay is making updates to match service with demand,” officials noted on Monday in an online update to transit riders, adding the transit provider “monitors ridership patterns regularly to adapt service levels based on how customers are using the transit network. These changes help ensure transit resources are distributed effectively to support the areas of greatest demand.”

Among the changes to be implemented beginning the second week of September is increased service frequencies on the Route 110 University Express, which will run more often between the City Centre Transit Terminal at Square One and Clarkson GO station.

“As part of this change, Route 110A University Express will be discontinued, with service merging with Route 110 University Express,” MiWay said.

Also starting the week of Sept. 7, the transit agency will resume operation of its regular post-secondary and secondary school bus routes as students return to classes.

Regular school service will resume on the following routes:

44 Mississauga Road
126 Burnhamthorpe Express
All 300-series secondary school routes

In addition, a new high school route will be introduced, operating between Meadowvale Village and Streetsville Secondary School, MiWay officials said.

The new bus (Route 305) will arrive at the Streetsville high school each weekday at 7:55 a.m. and depart for the day at 2:48 p.m.

MiWay says additional school trips will also be reinstated on regular routes to provide extra capacity during school start and dismissal times. The following school trips on regular routes will see new or adjusted weekday trip times to align with new bell times:

8 Cawthra (Port Credit Secondary School, Cawthra Park Secondary School, St. Paul Secondary School)
13 Glen Erin (John Fraser Secondary School)
14/14A Lorne Park (Lorne Park Secondary School)
15 Drew (Ascension of Our Lord Secondary School)
29 Park Royal (Clarkson Secondary School)
36 Ridgeway (Loyola Secondary School)
51 Tomken (Philip Pocock Secondary School)

Meanwhile, for MiWay riders of all ages, weekday service frequency will be increased on the following routes:

20 Rathburn
26 Burnhamthorpe
53 Kennedy
107 Malton Express
108 Financial Express

More weekend service is being added to these routes:

3 Bloor
5 Dixie
26 Burnhamthorpe
35 Eglinton
61 Mavis
66 McLaughlin
107 Malton Express
109 Meadowvale Express

Due to reduced ridership numbers, MiWay is adjusting service accordingly on routes 18 Derry and 9 Rathburn, transit officials noted.
